Day 2: Lake Manyara to the Ngorongoro Crater
We leave Arusha after a delicious breakfast at the Coffee Lodge and head West across the Great Rift Valley, where we find Lake Manyara. This 130 sq mile park is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems, which is often overlooked by visitors. We will spend the day exploring this fantastic park which incorporates arid plains, dry woodlands, and tropical rain forests all contained between the impressive Gregory Rift Wall and the shores of Lake Manyara. Not only will you find giraffe, elephants, hippos, mongoose, and buffalo in the area, but the Soda-lake attracts more than 400 species of birds, including the beautiful lesser flamingo and often large flocks of pelican. If we are luck we may also find the pride of lions that are famous in this park as they are often found in the trees. In the mid-afternoon, we will leave the park behind, climbing the Rift Wall and making our way to the Ngorongoro Conservation area. Overnight at Sopa lodge.
Day 3: The Ngorongoro Crater Floor
We start the day before sunrise with a warm cup of coffee and an excellent breakfast, before heading down to the crater floor. The location of the camp ensures that we are the first vehicle to get down to explore the world’s largest intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater, which formed some three million years ago is the result of a large volcanic explosion in which the volcano collapsed on itself, leaving us with the 100 sq mile crater floor which today is rich Savannah and home to the densest population of wildlife in all of Tanzania. The early hours of the day allow us to enjoy the wildlife while it is most active, increasing our chances to see one of the last remaining Black Rhinos, before they head for shelter in the woodlands to escape the heat of the day. We will enjoy a picnic lunch near the Hippo pool. We will then make a last short game drive before heading back to camp. If time allows you may opt to enjoy a guided walking safari near the camp.
Day 4-5: The Serengeti Plains
We make our way down from the Ngorongoro Highlands and out onto the endless plains of the Serengeti, entering the park through the Naabi Hill gate, enjoying the game we find along the way towards the Seronera Sector located in the Center of the Serengeti. This area has rich year round game, but more importantly is known for its Big Cats. With some 26 different prides of lion, we will certainly have plenty of opportunities to enjoy them. Additionally Leopard and Cheetah are commonly spotted in the area.
Each day in the Serengeti is yours to manage. You may choose to start the day early with a sunrise game drive and lunch at the camp, or head out after a relaxing breakfast taking a packed lunch and enjoying a full day in our Paradise.
An optional Hot Air Balloon Safari followed by a champagne breakfast may be added to the tour one of these mornings. Kati kati lodge
Day 6-8: Mingle with the Migration
We will spend the next two days tracking the Great Migration, which is said to be the “Eighth Wonder of the World”. Over half a million Zebra and some 1.5 million wildebeest make their annual migration through the Serengeti ecosystem in search of greener pastures.
During the months of July, August, September we will position ourselves in the Northern Serengeti ideally located to catch the herds as they cross crocodile infested rivers as they head to the Masai Mara, and even in October we may catch them crossing back into the Serengeti as they return south.
From early December through March we will position ourselves in the Ndutu Area of the NCAA where the vast plains witness the wildebeest calving. With some 10,000 births daily, the peak of calving season is often around the full moon in February. And with so much easy prey we are bound to witness a famed hunt, not to mention the special opportunity to spot Cheetah and Leopard which are very common in the area. Kati kati lodge
Day 9: From the Bush to the Beach
After a final morning game drive you will be taken to the Kogatende or Ndutu Airstrip where you will board our first class shared charter to Zanizbar. On arrival at the airport you will be met by driver who will take you to the Northern tip of the Spice Island, where you will find pristine beaches and crystal clear water. You will then check into your room where you will find a complementary bottle of Sparkling Wine, to set the mood for this relaxing stay in paradise.
Day 10-13: The Spice Island
Enjoy four full days at your leisure. A variety of water sports are offered by the Resort, or you may opt for one of many guided tours around the island, or enjoy some excellent snorkeling and diving in the Indian Ocean. During your stay you will be treated with a romantic dinner for two and a complementary 30 minute couples message.
Day 14: As the Sunsets
After a final morning by the pool or on the white sandy beach, you will then be transferred to the Zanzibar International Airport to catch your return flight home. For those departing from Dar es Salaam, we can add the short shuttle flight for a small additional cost
